A client recently approached me to create an 8’ x 20’ mural of physicians from around the world who are the pioneers of endovascular aortic repair surgery. The mural was the centerpiece of their medical device booth at the VEITH Symposium, an international conference about vascular and endovascular issues.
Sometimes my clients only see me as the illustrator that can draw anatomy, devices or procedures (I once had a client ask if I was able to draw fruit to go with some medical illustrations about healthy living). It was fantastic to create art on such a large scale and for the subject to be non-medical.
I loved seeing photos and selfies the doctors took of themselves with their portraits.
I’m very grateful for the variety of work I get to do. I certainly didn’t think I’d be creating murals for medical conferences when I first started this medical media gig. This is one of the most fun, non-medical projects I’ve had in a while.
And I can also draw fruit.
