A rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is an abnormal opening or fistula between the rectum and vagina that allows stool and gas to pass into the vagina. The most common causes include childbirth injuries, inflammatory bowel diseases, and pelvic surgery or radiation. Treatment usually involves surgery to repair the fistula.
